Happy Boxing Day
For the people in Northern America and that teeny bit of country in Europe that celebrates this day: Happy Boxing Day. May this day fulfill all the material things you wanted for 2006. For the rest of the world, have … Continue reading

Oh-most
Good news: We’ve transformed our home into an Almost Imperial free zone. With the latest purchase of a kitchen scale (not related to Christmas), we’ve made our kitchen (and pets) into a genuine 21st century home. In with those grams. … Continue reading

A bus in the ditch
Wait: Earlier today an Acadian Lines bus skidded off the 102 and ended up in the ditch. Treacherous conditions this morning for sure: while the morning brought a pleasant surprise (less snow than expected), the snow kept on falling all … Continue reading

Winters
Give it up already! Snowstorm #2 is hitting us tonight and tomorrow morning, with once again, 20cms and higher. Watch! Me! Shovel! Snow! Blech. I’d be a millionaire for every inch of snow I moved. Incidentally, I noticed a couple … Continue reading

S’ Observations
Yesterday’s snowfest and cleaning didn’t hold us from doing some Christmas shopping. Some observations that might (or might not) entertain: 1. It wasn’t busy in the Mall. I’ve seen it busier. Initially, I assumed that the snow must have been … Continue reading

More of this cold please
We’ve slowly entered the cold dark age of Winter. Last week, the first couple of centimeters of snow seemed to announce the beginning of that age. I bet, those snowy leftovers will be hanging around until our first thaw in … Continue reading

Water, speed encore
Talking about water: it looks like we have our first snow of the season. A couple of centimeters and since it’s fairly cold (around the 4 degrees or something), I expect it to hang around for a while. Via Kottke, … Continue reading

Birds then.
With the killing of a house sparrow in The Netherlands (English speaking people go here), I was suprised to find out that in Holland, the common house sparrow had been put on the endangered species list. They are? Yes, these … Continue reading

Ha!
Har! I got meself a free copy of Ubuntu Linux. A not-named store in the center of the town had them in a small carton display/box. I made sure to ask if they were for free, which they were: one … Continue reading

Eats, leaves
We cleaned up the leafs in the frontyard. One of the maple trees finally decided to let go and fill our driveway with bright yellow coloured celluloid. Great timing too. Last year, it happened also on a Saturday morning.

Xenotaph
The most often heard word this week was ‘cenotaph’. A word I thought was supposed to be spelled as xenotaph: I already associated the word cenotaph with a monument for the unknown soldier. Hence the xeno. Misheard that one. Other … Continue reading

With Halloween approaching,
This Yahoo item has me thinking: “Although Halloween has become increasingly popular across Europe — complete with carved pumpkins, witches on broomsticks, makeshift houses of horror and costumed children rushing door to door for candy — it’s begun to breed … Continue reading

X-Files
I noticed that Walmart has all the X-Files seasons1 on sale for (and around) 89.99 dollars (tax included), which I thought was an expensive proposition if you think about it that there are 10 seasons. You do the math. On … Continue reading
