Sjako’s ‘Hurt’

I have been thinking to feature Sonic Youth’s ‘Bull in the heather’ in this Past the Bridge item, but ended up bubblesorting Sjako’s ‘Hurt’.

Eh. Sjako is a Dutch band that has been going through plenty of personnel changes since 1983. I think, most of their songs are in English (don’t ask me why) and they were (are still?) highly popular in the Cafe scene. Only one song stuck out during the years and that is ‘Hurt’, a song I associate with that catchy guitar strum theme and a couple of good memories. That’s it. I never liked the actual songtext: for some kind of reason the text doesn’t feel balanced. Listening back: It’s repeative, because of the repeative guitar theme. The original recording is also 6 minutes long: too long, which makes me want to cut the song up in 3 essential (smaller pieces): The intro, the first verse and the last section.

For the interested, Sjako’s website hosts most of the songs (full-length, RAM files) .
