When sci-fi movies take the wrong turn

Over at the BBC a cynical editorial how Sci-Fi movies sometimes forget about real science. Or rather use dodgy science to explain unnatural scenarios.

Apparantly, the Hulk (Ang Lee’s latest summer bash flick) is one of the clearest examples: the original (60’s) comic explained that radiation was the major cause of Banner morphing into the Green Monster. Knowing that radiotion isn’t really good for the health, Ang Lee’s screenwriters decided to use the Sea Cucumber theory. Making things worse, as many moviegoers found out:

“Science fiction often has to resort to pure fabrication in order to have a plot. When it does, our feeling is that it’s best to put it on the table with a minimum of explanation”
