Wildlife weirdness

Today, the US Senate voted for drilling in the Arctic Wildlife Refuge. For over two decades this was a topic that never made it through the Senate: the Senate voted 51 to 49 for drilling.

Here’s the weird part: I originally read first about it on this CBC news page where it quoted Senator Cantwell saying:

We won’t see this oil for 10 years. It will have minimal impact —

However, over at the CBC they’ve deleted the comment but it’s still showing on the CNN’s one: on her own (Senate) site she appears to be vehemently against drilling:

“The fight over drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is far from over. We almost stopped this budget trickery on the floor today. But now that the Energy Committee will consider this legislation, I’ll be prepared to use every tool at my disposal to stop drilling in the Arctic . We need a serious national strategy to move us toward energy independence.”

Was the very first quote really taken out of context, or is the senator generally for drilling in the Arctic, I wonder? Note to the Kerry’s site webmaster: please provide real links for articles.
