Euro 2004 IV

The Dutch national soccer/football team made it to the semi-finals, playing against host Portugal next Wednesday. I didn’t have time to really sit down and watch the game, since I was in charge of cooking, but thought it was a pretty good game. Not boring, except for that it was just a long game. Robben was (once again) creating good chances. If the Dutch make it to the finals, it wouldn’t surprise me if he gets an honourable mention.

Tomorrow the Czech Republic plays Denmark for the last empty slot in the semi-finals: I expect the Czechs to make it. Note that many Dutch people think that the Czechs will become the European champions.

Sorry I said boring. I meant…tactical. I like Arsenal big and am a Scots kid with a Swedish angle to the family so it was a bit of a toss-up but the right team won. Van der Sar was great.

I can’t remember anyone saying boring :-), so don’t worry about it. As for the tactical: it was, but as the Swedes said, the game could have turned either side if the chances were actually made into goals.

I hate penalty shoot-outs, though. Also weird: the ‘silver goal’ rule. What happened to the ‘golden goal’ rule?

I thought I said boring over at my place. You are right on the opportunities. My beloved Freddie L. hitting the post. Ruud doing what he does despite the off-sides. I like the silver over the golden goal, though. Come backs rule.
